Q&A
It depends on the type of advisory project we're carrying out for the client. For example, the fee for a business valuation is a fixed, lump-sum amount, and its size depends on how complex the business is and which valuation methods are used.
Advising on the sale of a company is a complex, comprehensive process that takes at least a few months, sometimes longer. In such cases our fee typically combines a fixed retainer for the preparatory work with a success fee later on, calculated as a percentage of the transaction value, depending on the expected deal size and other factors, sometimes paid in instalments as agreed milestones are reached.
For some projects we agree a daily or hourly rate with the client — for example, for expert consultations in healthcare & pharma sectors, or strategy workshops in which we work with the management team on a new strategy for the business. Billing by time spent gives both sides the flexibility to focus on the goal rather than on budget constraints.
